• bad = ħażin Ha-zeen

• please = jekk jogħġbok yek - yawj-bok

• thank you (very much) = grazzi (ħafna) grat-see (Haf-na)

• what is your name? = x'jismek? shyiss-mek

• my name is... = jisimni... yis-im-nee

• where are you from? = minn fejn inti? min - fayn in-tee

• I am from... = jien minn... yeen - min

• do you know / speak / understand? = inti taf / titkellem /        tifhem in-tee - taf / tit-kell-em  / teef-em

- Notes -

* With these phrases, you should be able to greet people, and ask and answer a few simple questions.

* Like in English, Maltese sentence structure is 'subject-verb-object' (e.g. 'I eat the apple' = 'Jien niekol it-tuffieħa').

* The capital '' in the pronunciation guide is a strong 'h' sound, though not gutteral.
